THE CONNECTION
Bruce Peninsula Seniors Connect Inc. Newsletter
Issue 8 - April 2006

Cottage Dreams is a registered charity that offers recent cancer survivor time away at a donated, private cottage to recover, reconnect and rebuild their lives together in a natural setting.
Cottage Dreams is the brainstorm of Seana O’Neill and Tavis Valentine. Seana’s mother fought and won the battle with breast cancer in 1988.
The concept is simple; cottage owners can donate their cottages if it is within a 45 minute drive of a hospital and is easily accessible from the road. They must have indoor plumbing and a telephone.
Visiting families are chosen in consultation with medical experts and they must agree to respect and look after the donated property like it was their own. An interview is held to determine dates, where they would like to go and any special needs. Visiting families sign a waiver releasing cottage owners from any liability.
The program operates year round and offers visiting families and week, free of charge to relax, recuperate and reconnect with their family. Cottage Dreams is located in the Haliburton region and is looking for cottages in our area for cancer survivors. There is nothing better for you to recuperate than a nice relaxing stay at a cottage on the Bruce. If you wish to donate your cottage, volunteer by being a community friend or site visitor, or would like to donate to this worthwhile cause, please contact Cottage Dreams at 705-457-9100 or by email.

Eastnor Horticultural Society Dissolves

The 29th of March was a sad day in Northern Bruce Peninsula. After 80 years of beautifying the community, Eastnor Horticultural Society has decided to dissolve due to being unable to find a new executive. The monies in the Society will be spent on benches for the community with any remaining funds being donated to the Day Care Centre to help start their Children’s Garden Project.
Val is on holidays in Arizona and we hope to get a post card from her soon.

BPSC has a very busy calendar coming and if any one else would like to add to our events or activities please call the office and we will submit in our next newsletter.
April is recognized for a number of agencies and organizations, all of whom play a part of the ongoing support of the public. Please give our office a call and we can give you the list of upcoming weekly activities in the area.
One of the most recognized and really significant being National Volunteer Week - April 23-29, 2006.
Volunteer’s are a special, unique sector of people who give to our society in many agencies and organizations unconditionally. These special and unique people should be recognized as very important backbones of our society.
